Chris Liebing, born on December 11, 1968, in Gießen, Germany, is a renowned DJ, producer, and radio host who has been a pivotal figure in the techno scene since the early 1990s. His journey began with the opening of Spinclub in 1994, followed by roles at Eye Q Records and the establishment of his first label, ‘Audio,’ in 1996. In 1999, he founded CLR (Create Learn Repeat), a label that has significantly influenced the techno landscape.
Liebing’s discography includes notable works such as the 2004 album “Evolution,” described by CMJ New Music Report as “a techno album to go to war with,” and the 2005 collaboration with Speedy J, “Collabs 3000: Metalism,” praised by Billboard as “one of the year’s best collections of original electronic music.”
In 2009, he launched the CLR Podcast, featuring guest mixes from a wide array of techno DJs, including Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore. The podcast ran until 2015, after which it was succeeded by the AM/FM series, focusing on Liebing’s own mixes and live recordings.
Liebing has graced the stages of iconic venues such as Space and Amnesia in Ibiza, Fabric in London, and Berghain in Berlin, as well as major festivals like Time Warp. In 2018, he released “Burn Slow” on Mute Records, featuring collaborations with artists like Gary Numan and Polly Scattergood. The album artwork was inspired by a painting from Jan Brueghel the Younger.
In May 2023, Liebing collaborated with Luke Slater on a remix of Depeche Mode’s “Ghosts Again,” further showcasing his enduring influence in the techno world.
